Are you someone who knows how to take good care of their plants? Great. We’re glad to hear that. But there might be some things you don’t know that we’re going to let you in on today. For example, do you make sure to water your plants at the right times, and in the right way? The safest answer would be “yes”, but even then it’s not guaranteed. So here are a few helpful tips for all of us green-thumbs out there about how to water plants the proper way!

Watering your plant season-wise

Depending upon the climate, you may have different watering needs for your plants. In the winter it is important to make sure that there is enough moisture in the soil so as to keep various roots from freezing and in the summer, your plants need regular watering because of a number of characteristics including heat, absorbency capacity, and leaf transpiration factors. Overwatering your plants and root rot will set in, leaving you with dead vegetation. The best thing to do is make sure to check with a professional who’s knowledgeable about plant types so as not to fall into this common trap.

Checking the soil moisture

Checking the moisture levels of your soil before and after you water is a good idea, at least until you get a real feel for how much water your specific plants need. If the soil is moist within an inch or two of the surface, it doesn’t mean you have to water right away. So, rather than watering every day, why not check once a week to ascertain that your crops are getting enough water? After watering, make sure to examine the ground around the plants to see if they’ve taken in what you gave them.

Watering new plants

You have to learn how to correctly water your new plants, especially in the first year or two. Young plants are very fragile and they can become severely damaged if they are not given enough water.

Water your container plants regularly

Container plants have their own specific watering needs. Generally, they require regular watering and most species need this to be done daily. Other things you need to keep in mind when it comes to caring for container plants include: making sure there is a drainage hole at the bottom of the pot so as not to overwhelm them with water, isolating them from direct sunlight so as not to cause significant burns and helping make room for new leaves by removing old ones on occasion when the conditions are right (generally during early winter).

And very importantly- Know your soil!

If you are a homeowner and you are ready to start watering your plants, you need to know about the soil type because it can change the watering needs. If you don’t know how to water your plants, you can use a soil meter to help you determine how much water your plants need. Soil meters can tell you how much water is in the soil, which can help you determine how much water your plants need. Soil meters are also helpful for testing the pH balance of the soil, which is important for the growth of plants.
